About Mechanical Classroom
Inspiring Mechanical Minds.
Mechanical Classroom was created by Ava and Jake Raby and is offered by Raby Enterprises Inc., Cleveland, Georgia. It serves learners from elementary school through college. Kits and experiences are available for schools, and for individuals and families who want the experience at home.
Why it exists
Today's children lack hands-on experience with mechanical devices, so children with very strong mechanical aptitudes are not being identified. Mechanical Classroom gives learners that experience, and helps identify those who may otherwise go unnoticed in conventional classroom experiences and evaluations.
How it started
The first Mechanical Classroom experience was a pilot with a 7th-grade class at Prince Avenue Christian School. Over a four-week unit, students learned the basics of engine building at mobile learning stations, and on the last day they started their engines. (Read the school's article.)
